Intersection Redesign Honolulu
This intersection was redesigned to a "squarer shape" to slow entering traffic and to widen the median to incorporate a pedestrian crossing.
Temporary Median on Curve
Boca Raton. After the completion of a traffic calming process, temporary treatments were installed to test the effectiveness of the scheme before it was constructed. Construction was completed after a successful trial period.
Local Street with Roller Blader
A local street roundabout used to slow traffic on two narrow residential streets in Elgin, IL. Note the roller blader is traveling the same speed as the car.
Roundabouts
All Designs by Michael Wallwork
Haile Plantation Gainesville, Florida
Built by the developer as a gateway and for traffic control. Low speed, yet it can handle large tractor trailers.
Coral Gables
Roundabout design prepared for the Rouse Corporation in Coral Gables that replaced a signalized intersection operating at level-of-service F. This roundabout has six legs and is on a four lane road. It serves as the entrance to a four story parking garage serviceing a multi-story upscale Mall. This photo was taken during the Friday evening peak hour. Traffic volumes exceed 2,000 vehicles per hour.
Clearwater Beach, Florida
A two-lane roundabout that replaced three signalized intersections. Carries 40,000 to 55,000 vehicles per day and 4,000 to 8,000 pedestrians per day. No pedestrian or bicycle crashes in 18 months. Previously there was an average of 4 pedestrians or bicycle crashes a year. Try and find an intersection anywhere that can handle this traffic volume.
It is the greatest gateway of any roundabout in the US.
